Loretta was born on January 26th, 1952 in Hamiota, Manitoba. She grew up on her parents farm near Isabella, Manitoba from her birth until 1969. As a child she was involved in 4H and her church choir. Very studious, she graduated from her high school in Birtle at the top of her class. Moving to Calgary in 1969, she devoted the early years of her adult life to raising her two children. She then entered the workforce full-time with the Energy and Utilities Board in 1988. It was there that she would meet and later marry her husband Stewart. They were wed on August 10th, 2001. She later moved into the private sector, accepting a position with Encana where she remained until her retirement in 2011. A two-time cancer survivor, Loretta enjoyed reading in her spare time; her favorite works included To Kill A Mockingbird and I Am That. She also enjoyed watching British TV dramas, playing scrabble, and practicing meditation. Loretta loved to travel, particularly to Hawaii which she had visited twice recently. She will be fondly remembered by friends and family for both her intelligence and her generosity towards others. Besides her loving husband Stewart, Loretta is survived by her two children Paula Marie Sterling and Conrad Roy (Laura) Sterling; three grandchildren Landon, Amelia, and Claudia Sterling; as well as her sister and brother-in-law Gail and David Lane. She was predeceased by her parents Roy and Mervena Irvine. |
