Reserve Company sent up immediately to support centre and right Companies, and Company 28th called on to replace them in Support. Severe hand to hand fighting kept up all day. Spirit of Officers and Men superb. The Huns thrown back at every attempted counter attack. Before noon enemy had succeeded in gaining foot-hold on 29th trench, and our left Company had to withdraw to keep in touch. Useless to retain position? on right held by A. Co. and orders issued for withdrawal at dark. In the meantime, bombs and supplies rushed up through 28th Battn. Carrying Party and heavy casualties inflicted on Hun. Well planned and careful withdrawal made after dusk. Succeeded in taking over 40 prisoners and otherwise punishing the enemy. Narratives of Operation attached. Besides his wife, he is survived by his children Cheryl Brine of Owen Sound, and Daryl (Erica) Brine of St. Marys. Proud grandfather of Katie Brine and Ethan Brine of St. Marys. Brother of Marilyn Robinson (Ross) of St. Marys. He will be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Oscar and Pearl Brine. was a former member of the Woodham United Church and long-time member of the Granton Masonic Lodge and Exeter Chapter #222 Order of the Eastern Star. He was employed for 30 years, as a welder, with Stratford MTO. Travelling, camping, fishing, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren were his favourite pastimes. In accordance with his wishes, cremation to take place. A private family service will be held with burial in Kirkton Union Cemetery at a later date. donations may be made to the Shriner's Children's Hospital, The Scottish Rite Learning Centre or to a charity of choice. |
