Aphysicist and professor at Clemson University for 35 years, he previously been a research scientist at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in, CA. For several summers Dr. Burt flew his own plane daily from to work at Oak Ridge until a forced landing in an East Tennessee cowended his piloting career. He was a graduate of the University of, where he was Grand Master of Kappa Sigma Fraternity andin-Chief of the student paper. He was a former member of the Board ofof the UTK physics department. He is survived by: his wife, Harriet; four children, Beth Lynn Burt, Konni Burt Shier, Syd Burt Hackworth,Timothy Clack Burt; and two grandchildren, Lilly Marie Hackworth and"Keiki" Justice Shier. Dr. Burt was predeceased by another, Olivia Tinsley Shier. There will be a memorial service, Aug. 12, at Clemson First Baptist Church, which he attended for30 years and where he sang in the choir. Memorials may be made to theUniversity Foundation for the R.M. Cooper Library's collection ofmaterials. The family will be at the home, 505 Tiger Terrace, SC, 29678. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Linda; his mother, Margaret; his six children Shannon (Ronny; Lauren, Daniel, Thomas), Catherine (Steven; Steven Junior, Ryan), Mae (Islam; Abdullah, Adnan, Aasiyah), John (Punteha), Jane (Saptarshi; Dia), and Philip (Ghizlane); his sisters Joan and Glenda (Paul) and brother Gordon (Pat).
