Mort was R.F.D. mail carrier, retired after forty years. He was a member and former president of Rural Letter Carriers Assocation of Top O'Michigan. Georgia was a newspaper correspondent for many years plus special articles occasinally, mostly about the pioneers. She wrote a history of the pioneers of this area, covering the last half of the ninetenth century. She was very active in the church Sunday School, choir leader for the young people for many years. Mort and Georgia had two children; Marie (b. 1921) married Philip Bedient (b. 1922) - a college porfessor, John (b. 1922) married Tresa Shell (b. 1923) - daughter of another R.F.D. carrier. Philip and John were both in WWII. |

Service for Morton C. Pangborn of Levering who died at the Emmet Medical Facility this morning, will be held Saturday at 2:00 PM at the Levering Methodist Church. Rev. Viola Norman will be in charge and burial will be in Carp Lake Cemetery. Dr. Harold Bedient will assist Mrs. Norman.
Mr. Pangborn was born Dec. 29, 1863 in Bad Axe and came to Levering in 1904 and was married to Georgia Schmalzried at Galesburg on Feb. 21, 1915. They made their home in Levering where he was a rural mail carried for 41 years until his retirement in 1953.
He was a member and former president of the Rural Letter Carriers Association of Top O'Michigan and the Levering IOOF I90.
Surviving are his wife; a son John of Midland and a daughter Mrs. Philip (Marie) Bedient of Lancaster, Pa; five grandchildren; a brother, Carl of Levering.
The body will be at the Stone Funeral Home where friends may call. It will be at the church in Levering from noon unitl time of the services Saturday.

Her marriage to Clarence Ernest Shier took place in Brandon December 8, 1926. During her residence in the Crandall district she took an interest in community affairs and made many friends, and her membership in the church and W.I. circles were highly valued. Her passing is a matter of sincere regret. service was conducted by Rev. J.B. Francis and the casket was laid to rest in Crandall cemetery by Ray O'Connor, Ed. Shier, Walter Beggs, Chas. R. Lee, C.W. Lewis, Wal. Hyndman. The floral tributes were numerous and very, beautiful. is her husband and two sons, Gerald and Barry, at home; a daughter, Mrs. Phil Barteaux, Birtle; her mother and two brothers, Bruce and Rodney, McConnell; Max, Treterne; Joe, Meilta, and one sister, Mrs. Wm. May (Ruth) at Strathclair.
