Descendents of Henry Shier (1701 - ? ), New York Henry Shier, b 1730, a grandson of Han Adam Schrier and son of Henry Shier (1701 - ?) emigrated from Ireland to New York City about 1760 along with his siblings Mary, Julius, Martin, and Ann. Possibly also a brother John. In about 1783 Henry and Martin left for Halifax Nova Scotia either because they were loyalists or for business reasons. Henry had his daughters with him but his son Henry remained in New York. Probably his son Martin stayed in NY also. His siblings Ann, Mary and Julius also remained in New York. Henry and Martin both died in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Descendants of Richard Shier (1796 - 1877) and Catherine Shier Emigrated from Ireland to Odelltown, Quebec with his wife and brother- in-law, Samuel Shier, in 1822. In 1831 they moved to Upper Canada to farm on Lot 4 Concession 5 Brock Twp., west of Sunderland, Ontario.

Nathaniel was a brother of Catherine Shier and Samuel Shier who had settled in Brock Twp. in 1831 and of Mary Jane Shier (1805 - 1896) who married John Switzer Shier III. Nathaniel was killed in a barn raising accident 2 weeks after arriving in Canada.

He was the son of Samuel Doupe and Catherine Shier ( 1776 - 1849). Four of Ann Sparling's siblings married Shiers; William Peter, George Christopher, Joseph and Dora.
