- Descendents of Henry Shier (1701 - ? ), New York Henry Shier, b 1730, a grandson of Han Adam Schrier and son of Henry Shier (1701 - ?) emigrated from Ireland to New York City about 1760 along with his siblings Mary, Julius, Martin, and Ann. Possibly also a brother John. In about 1783 Henry and Martin left for Halifax Nova Scotia either because they were loyalists or for business reasons. Henry had his daughters with him but his son Henry remained in New York. Probably his son Martin stayed in NY also. His siblings Ann, Mary and Julius also remained in New York. Henry and Martin both died in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
- Descendants of Richard Shier (1796 - 1877) and Catherine Shier Emigrated from Ireland to Odelltown, Quebec with his wife and brother- in-law, Samuel Shier, in 1822. In 1831 they moved to Upper Canada to farm on Lot 4 Concession 5 Brock Twp., west of Sunderland, Ontario.
- Descendants of Samuel Shier (1796 - 1878) and Ann Smith Emigrated from Ireland to Odelltown, Quebec in 1822 along with his sister and brother-in-law, Catherine and Richard Shier. In 1831 he moved to Brock Twp. to farm west of Sunderland, Ontario adjacent to the farm of his sister and brother- in-law.
- Descendants of John Shier I (1798 - 1870) John Shier I, the first of several John Shiers to emigrate from Ireland to Ontario, was a 3rd cousin to Richard Shier and Samuel Shier, He came to Brock Twp, Ontario County, in 1826 and settled on lots 2 and 3, Concession 4.
- Descendants of John Shier II (1792 - 1874) and Catherine Piper John Shier II emigrated from Ireland to Brock Township, Ontario County, Canada in 1828. On his way to Ontario, he stayed briefly with this brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Catherine Shier at Odelltown, Quebec, , but ended up settling on Lots 1 and 2, Concession 5 Brock Twp. Ontario County.

- Descendants of John Shier III (1805 - 1892) John Shier III emigrated from Ireland to Brock Township, Ontario County in 1831. A brother of Richard Shier, he inititally settled on Lot 4 Concession 5, Brock Twp. He subsequently moved to Blanshard Twp., Perth County.
- Descendants of William Shier (1815 - 1890) and Elizabeth White William Shier , a son of Henry of Adare and a brother of John 1, came to Brock Twp. in 1833 along with this brother Corneil in 1833.
- Descendants of Corneil Benjamin Shier (1808 - 1893) A brother of John Shier 1, Corneil came to Brock in 1833 and settled on the W1/2 of Lot 8 Conc. 9. He later moved to Michigan.
- Descendants of Henry Shier 1777 - 1830 and Mary Corneil 1771 - 1861 There is no evidence that Henry actually lived in Brock Twp. His widow probably came to Brock in 1833 with her son Corneil Benjamin. John Shier I is another son who arrived earlier in Brock.
- Descendants of Adam Shier (1800 - 1867) and Frances Teskey (1811- -1868) Adam Shier and Frances Teskey emigrated from Ireland to St Mary's in Perth County, Ontario in 1843 and several descendents subsequently emigrated to Wisconsin, United States in 1885.
- Descendants of Nathaniel Shier (1817 - 1849) and Rachel Doupe (1819 - 1904) Nathaniel Shier (1817 - 1849) and his wife Rachel Doupe (1819 - 1904) came to Canada from Ireland in 1849 settling in Grey County. Nathaniel was a brother of Catherine Shier and Samuel Shier who had settled in Brock Twp. in 1831 and of Mary Jane Shier (1805 - 1896) who married John Switzer Shier III. Nathaniel was killed in a barn raising accident 2 weeks after arriving in Canada.
- Descendents of Martin Shier (1770 - ?) Several sons of Martin Shier (1770 - ? ) emigrated from Ireland and settled in Lennox-Addington County north of Kingston, Ontario. The descendents of Richard, John, Godfrey, Nicholas and Jacob are included in this chart.
- Descendants of William Shier, Yankee Bill (1830 - 1923) Known as "Yankee Bill", WIlliam came to Ontario in 1858, subsequently went to Illinois in 1854 and in 1859 returned to Brock Twp.
- Descendents of Amos S. Doupe (1817 - 1869) and Ann Maude Sparling Amos S. Doupe and Ann Maude Sparling emigrated from Ireland to Blanshard Twp., Perth County, Ontario in approx. 1845. He was the son of Samuel Doupe and Catherine Shier ( 1776 - 1849). Four of Ann Sparling's siblings married Shiers; William Peter, George Christopher, Joseph and Dora.
- Descendants of Jabez Lynde (1773 - 1856) and Clarissa Clay Woodruff (1774 - 1830) Jabez Lynde, his wife Clarissa Woodruff came to Whitby Twp. with her parents, Hawkins Woodruff and Lois Hills in 1800.
Descendants of Nathaniel Shier (1817 - 1849) and Rachel Doupe (1819 - 1904) Nathaniel Shier and Rachel Doupe emigrated to Ontario, Canada in 1849 with 4 children. He was killed 2 weeks later in a barn raising accident. Rachel subsequently married Charles Doupe and had 5 more children.
The Shiers, An Irish Palatine Family
An ongoing family history project compiled by Roger Shier, Ottawa, Canada. This project focuses on the descendents of Hans Adam Schrier/Shrier/Scheier/Shier who left the Palatinate region of Germany in 1709 eventually arriving in Limerick County, Ireland. Several descendents subsequently moved to New York State, United States of America and Ontario, Canada and then migrated to all areas of North America.
Work is continuing on Roger Shier's maternal lines including the Warrens, Lyndes and Woodruffs that settled in the Whitby-Oshawa area of the former Ontario County in the early 19th century.
