| Death* | Doreen Mable Anderson died on 4 August 2024 in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, Canada, at age 89; Doreen Mabel Hewson (nee Anderson), born January 3, 1935 at Victoria, BC, died August 4, 2024 at Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Samuel; parents, Mabel, William, and stepmother, Mary; siblings, William, Allan, Wilfred, Donald, Ronald, Arthur, and Muriel; and granddaughter-in-law, Camielle Adams. Doreen was a gentle, caring, compassionate woman who always smiled and never complained about life. Doreen filled her life with family, friends, and laughter. Her warm, loving demeanor will be greatly missed. Life wasn’t always easy for Doreen; one of twelve children, her mother died when she was 13. At 15, she became the household manager and full-time caregiver for her younger siblings. This is when she learned to make every penny count, something she used throughout her married life. As a teenager, she loved to dance. She belonged to the “Let’s Dance Club” in Victoria and was involved in competition and exhibition dancing. She often went dancing with her father, which is where she met her future husband, Sam. Her skilled fingers kept her sister, Joyce, and herself in clothing. Later, she used these skills for her daughter and grandchildren. From sewing clothes and home fashions, she evolved to quilting and machine embroidery. Many of the items she made will be treasured for years to come. Doreen will be sorely missed by her loving children, Samuel (Joyce), Stephen (Karen) and Kathryn (Adam); her nine grandchildren, Samuel Douglas, Craig (Alyson), Kimberly (Graham), Janelle (Brian), Scott, Jessica (Brock), Kyle, Amanda (Andrew) and Savannah (Takuma); and her six great-grandchildren, Emily, Kyla, Madison, William, Greyson, and Harmony. Doreen is also survived by her sister, Joyce (Gabe), and brothers, Robert (Linda), Maurice, and Gord (Karen). Remembrance service and burial to be held Friday, August 30th, 2024 at Glenwood Funeral Home. Viewing at 1:00 p.m., Service at 2:00 p.m., graveside and reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to cancer research. Fu. |
