Sam was also blessed with six great-grandchildren: Emily, Kyla, Madison, William, Greyson, and Harmony. Sam is survived by his sisters: Margaret, Grace (Wayne), and Marcia (Frank).

Sam joined the Royal Canadian Navy at the age of 17 years, serving 30 years, from 1951 to 1981, with postings in Halifax, Esquimalt, Winnipeg, Calgary, and Ottawa. He was part of the Canadian Contingent attending the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. He deployed to Southeast Asia on the HMCS Kootnay for the end of the Vietnam War and was attached to the Canadian Airborne Regiment on Cyprus (CANCOM UNFICYP) during the Turkish invasion of 1974.

Sam was loving, polite, stubborn, and family-oriented. He lived by example and put his family’s needs first. He was a major influence in the lives of his children and grandchildren, spending time with them, mentoring them, attending their events, and taking them with him on his daily activities. He had a subtle, teasing sense of humour. His naval service left him with an incredible ability to pack the most items into the smallest space. He was deeply in love with his wife and frequently had a lovestruck look when he looked at her.

A remembrance service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 15th, 2023, at Glenwood Funeral Home, (52356 Range Road 232, Sherwood Park, AB).

She graduated from Normal School in Toronto and first taught there at Maurice Cody School. After marrying George they moved to Pickering where they both taught school, built their home and raised their family. Audrey and George operated Glenrothes Shorthorn Farm in Beaverton together for some 60 years, moving there permanently in 1984. Audrey was the consummate hostess welcoming visitors from near and far who dropped in to Glenrothes to tour the cattle and enjoy a cup of tea. A strong community supporter Audrey worked tirelessly as a volunteer at the Pickering and Beaverton Presbyterian Churches and for many community organizations. Audrey always had a special place in her heart for those who had less fortunate circumstances or for whom life had been unkind and would offer generously her friendship and support. Family and friends will be received at the Mangan Funeral Home, Beaverton on Thursday October 5th from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Friday October 6th at the Beacan Presbyterian Church in Beaverton. Interment Stone Church Cemetery, Beaverton. If so desired memorial donations in memory of Audrey, to the Beacan Presbyterian Church or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.
