Doupe – Sunday, May 11th, 1924, at the home of her daughter, near Tillsonburg, Ont., there passed away one of Blanshard Townships native daughters in the person of Eliza Jane Gilpin, widow of the late Adam Doupe. She was born on the 22nd of March 1853. of Irish parents, in the persons of William and Margaret Gilpin, who settled on the 10th concession of Blanshard in the year 1852. Here she spent her life, until in January 1879, she became the wife of Adam Doupe, 2 years later they went to Kirkton and engaged in mercantile life and carried on the business known as J. Doupe & Co. For many years . Her later life was spent in London Township on the Sarnia Road close to the city. Here her husband died 12 years ago. Owing to ill health the last 3 years were spent at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dodd Tilton, near Tillsonburg. She was a life-long member of the Methodist church and active in all church work as long as her health permitted. She is survived by 2 daughters, (Josephine) Mrs.Edgar Kingdon, who resides near St Marys and (Olive) Mrs. Dodd Tilton, Tillsonburg; two sons, Victor, St. Paul, Minn. And Dr. Rupert, California; also 3 sisters, Miss Annie Gilpin, Tillsonburg; Sara, Los Angeles, Cal., and a brother J. J. Gilpin, Brussels. Funeral service was held at the Oatman Funeral Home, Tuesday, May 13th, conducted by Rev. G. W. Dewey, a much beloved former pastor. Interment was made in Mount Pleasant cemetery. Deceased was beloved by a wide circle of relatives and friends for her many excellent qualities of head and heart. From the Brussels Post, May 28, 1924. |

Mrs White was the eldest of eleven children born to Wm and Margaret Gilpin of Blanshard township, Perth countyand removed with her husband Henry Irwin White and children 25 years ago to Manitoba where they bought a section of land near Hartney . They prospered exceedingly well and were highly esteemed by all who knew them. Mr and Mrs. White had five children born to them, 4 sons and a daughter. Youngest son Herbert, a druggist in Winnipeg was killed 6 years ago in a wind storm and his mother got such a shock she never got over it and was an invalid ever since and died of heart failure on the sixth anniversary of his death July 13th. Interment was made on the 15th at Hartney, Mrs. White was the eldest sister of J J Gilpin of Brussels. |

The Memorial Service was held on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel at Hall Funeral Services, Estevan with Sandy Dalziel officiating.The lunch reception was held immediately following the service at the St. Paul's United Church auditorium.The Private Family Inurnment took place in the Estevan City Cemetery Columbarium following the lunch. The family of Marie would like to extend a very heartfelt thank you to all the doctors, nurses and staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital - Unit A for the excellent care given to Marie. Irene will be lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Donna Taylor and Judy (Harold) Riley; seven grandchildren, Darrell (Melissa Felker) Taylor, Allen (Amiee Kondyra) Taylor, Shawn Riley, Colleen (Dan McKinley) Riley, Tim Riley, Kevin Riley and Mike (Kristin Makela) Riley; five great grandchildren, Jaden and Zachary Taylor, Nicholas and Claudia Taylor and Megan Riley as well as numerous nephews and nieces. Irene worked for many years at the Olds Bakery and Co-op coffee bar. She was an avid gardener and generously shared her harvest with family and friends. On retirement Irene and Gordie travelled extensively in their motorhome metal detecting wherever they camped. Irene also loved to play bingo and go on bus trips to various casinos.
