Birth* | Rev. Frederic Henry Hedge was born on 12 December 1805 in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States.1 |
He was the son of Levi Hedge and Mary Kneeland. | |
Occupation | Rev. Frederic Henry Hedge was After graduating as valedictorian, he enrolled in Harvard Divinity School, where he met his intimate friend Ralph Waldo Emerson. After graduating from the Divinity School in 1828, Hedge was ordained as a Unitarian minister in 1829, and became minister at a Unitarian church in West Cambridge. In 1835 he took charge of a church in Bangor, Maine; in 1850, after spending a year in Europe, he became pastor of the Westminster Church in Providence, Rhode Island, and in 1856 of the church in Brookline, Massachusetts in 1828 in Massachusetts, United States. |
Marriage* | He married Lucy Pierce in 1830. |
Occupation* | Rev. Frederic Henry Hedge was Professor at Harvard University. |
Death* | He died on 21 August 1890 in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States, at age 84; Unitarian Minister. A founding member of Transcendentalism. Hedge studied abroad in Germany with his tutor, the historian George Bancroft, before graduating from Harvard College as the valedictorian of the class of 1825. He then enrolled in Harvard Divinity School, where he met Ralph Waldo Emerson. Ordained in 1829, he became the minister at a church in West Cambridge (now Arlington), Massachusetts for a short time before taking a position in Bangor, Maine. He married Lucy Pierce in 1830; they had four children. Meeting with other religious philosophers, including Emerson and George Ripley, Hedge hosted the first meeting of the Transcendental Club at his home. The group, which also included Bronson Alcott, James Freeman Clarke, and others, was originally named Hedge's Club because they relied on Hedge traveling from Maine. He was not as radical as other members of the group, however, and stayed closely affiliated with the church. He refused to submit to "The Dial", though he was the first to suggest that the group publish a journal, because he did not want his connection with them seen in print. He later said, "My historical conscience... kept me ecclesiastically conservative, though intellectually radical." After leaving his pulpit in Maine, he worked at churches in Providence, Rhode Island and Brookline, Massachusetts and served a term as President of the American Unitarian Association. He returned to Harvard Divinity School as a professor and to edit the "Christian Examiner." At the end of his career, he taught German literature at Harvard. He published several books, mostly on religion, and translated others, including "Faust" from the original German Wilipedia.1 |

Death* | He died on 21 August 2017 at age 73; Verne Heggstrom November 29, 1943 – August 21, 2017 My dad was born in Kinistino, SK on November 29, 1943 to Ed and Louella. He grew up in Kinistino where he met the love of his life, Donna. They were married on July 21, 1967 and celebrated their 50th Anniversary this summer surrounded by family and friends. My brother Jami and I were his whole world; whether he was watching hockey, ball or pulling us behind the boat, he was always his happiest. My Dad worked as a power engineer and at the time of his retirement he was employed with Dairyworld. His three grandchildren were his pride and joy. He loved golfing with Erikk and watching him play soccer; he loved laughing with Hannah and watching her swim; he loved watching Georgia play hockey and doing crossword puzzles with her. Grandpa always had time for an ice cream treat and time for a hug. My Dad loved to golf and spent many days on the golf course where he made many friends. In January, my dad was diagnosed with sarcoma which he battled and lost his arm in April. He came out of that surgery like a trooper with the most positive outlook on life. In July, we found out that the sarcoma had taken over his lungs. Even though my Dad fought as hard as he could, it wasn't enough. We said our goodbyes and watched my Dad peacefully go to my brother. Holding his memories close are his wife of 50 years, Donna, his daughter Lori, son-in-law Caleb and his 3 grandchildren, Erikk, Hannah and Georgia. His brother-in-law Russell Wall, sister-in-law Gail and Ray Graves, brother-in- law Murray and Mavis Wall, sister-in-law Marlene and Leonard Beal, sister-in-law Kathryn and Perry Carswell, and several special nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Jami, his sister Doris, his parents Ed and Louella, his mother and father-in-law Elva and Mosie. Special thanks to Dr. Peter Graham, who has been so amazing through all of this. Thank you to the doctors and nurses at St. Paul's Hospital Palliative Care Unit. As per my dad's wishes, there will be no funeral service. Please feel free to stop by and visit my mom. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Palliative Care Unit at St. Paul's Hospital (St. Paul's Hospital Foundation, 1702 20th St W, Saskatoon, SK, www.stpaulshospital.org). Condolences for the family may be left at www.prairieviewchapel.com . Arrangements have been entrusted to Prairie View Chapel and Crematorium (306) 242-7884. |
