Devoted father of Gavin (Nancy), Lex (Mary), Lorrie (Glen Thornley), Andrew (Shannon), Anne Margaret (Murray Malott) and Victoria; loving grandfather of fourteen wonderful grandchildren, and several dear nieces and nephews. "Bob" was the son of the late Gavin McIntosh and Olive (Shier) McIntosh, South Porcupine, Ontario and Punta Gorda, Florida; dear brother of the late Dr. Homer McIntosh, Ottawa; Mary Robbins, Florida: and Elizabeth Harrison, North Bay. Brother-in-law of the late Gloria McIntosh, Ottawa; the late Dr. Harold Robbins, Florida; the late Douglas Harrison, North Bay; the late Judge L. G. de Koning and Karen de Koning of Chatham, Ontario. Bob was graduate of Albert College, Belleville, Ontario; Toronto Teachers' College; Victoria College, University of Toronto and Osgoode Hall Law School, York University. Upon graduation in 1957, he began his law practice in Brantford with fellow graduate, Charles Borda. He retired from the practice of law in 2001 due to failing health. During his years of practice, he was involved in legal, cultural, educational, political, military and service organizations locally and provincially. Upon retirement, he and his wife moved to the Villages of Glancaster Retirement Community, where he returned to his love of music by becoming Director of the "Golden Swing Dance Band". They became members of Central Presbyterian Church, Hamilton, after many years of membership at St. Andrew's United Church locally. In 2009 they returned to Brantford and to St. Andrew's. The family wishes to thank Dr. Jeffrey Manning, their dear friend and physician, for his compassionate care of Bob; CCAC, VON, and all those who cared for him throughout his illness. He was devoted to his family; dedicated to his community and country; and will be missed by many. Donations to the Stedman Community Hospice or the charity of your choice would be appreciated. Cremation has taken place. Doug was born in Toronto to Marion and Edward, and while attending York University met
and married the love of his life Terry, with his daughter Dana by his side.
Doug and Terry built an amazing life together with work and later their three children. Doug
was a man of many passions, including flying his helicopter, traveling the world, photography
(make sure you always take lots of photos), ancestry, hockey, golf, dinners with family and
friends, and playing with his Grandchildren.
He will be dearly missed by his wife of nearly 50 years, Terry; children Dana (Ken), Savannah
(James), Adrian (Michelle) and Justine (Ryan); Grandchildren Cole, Elijah, Theodore, Adeline,
Alexander, and Hendrix; Siblings Paul (Leslie), Joanne (Brian), and Laura; Mother-in-law
Helen and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Doug was predeceased by his parents Marion and Edward, father-in-law Nicholas, and his
brother-in-law Rob.
He was a bold, funny, charismatic, and exceptionally smart man, whose personality filled the
room with laughter and joy.
He will be missed by all of those who knew him.
A cremation has been performed as per his wishes.
A Celebration of Doug’s Life is planned for Saturday, June 17, 2023. Please contact a family
member for details.
Memorial donations may be made in his name to Oakville Milton Humane Society or Credit
Valley Hospital.
