He will be dearly missed by his family: step-father Gordon Grills of Little Britain, Judith (husband Bob) Marquis of Newmarket, Margaret Harrison (partner Ken Smith) of Oakville; nephew and nieces Paul, Robyn, Heather and Brittany; his Aunt Doris Stewart of Beaverton; and many cousins. He formed many life-long friends by whom he will be lovingly remembered. Aubrey spent his working life in Education, beginning teaching in a one-room school in Orillia in 1958 and retiring from the Ministry of Education as a Supervisory Officer. While working he earned a PhD in Education, was for many years Principal of the Toronto Teachers' Summer School for Special Education, was a past President of the Province of Ontario's Education Officials Association (P.O.E.O.A.) and was a charter member of Teachers' Lions. He had a passion for children and it showed. Aubrey loved nature and spent as much time out in it as he could. He always kept hounds and enjoyed running with them. He fished every spring, hunted every fall and went cottaging/camping year round. Many fond memories and warm friendships were forged through these interests. Grant shared a number of his adventures, and some became organized annual events. Aubrey has asked for cremation. A visitation will be held at the Jackson & Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch St., Sudbury from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and after 7 p.m. with a celebration of his life scheduled for 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 13, 2008. A special Memorial Service and interment at the Old Stone Church in Beaverton will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on June 20, 2008. Death* | Ella J. Smith died on 17 May 1950 at age 82; Ella Smith, 82, of 2070 Madison Av., SE, who taught the fifth and sixth grades at Hall school 24 years until she retired in 1939, died Wednesday in Blodgett Memorial Hospital after a three-week illness.
She was born in Huron county and taught shcools there before coming to Grand Rapids 35 years ago. She taught at Alexander school a year before going to Hall school.
Miis Smith was a member of Westminster Presbyterian chruch and its Central circle and Women's Evening club and the Peninsular chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.
Surviving are four sisters, Rebecca Smith of Grand Rapids; Mrs. H. C. Houvener of Cambridge, Ohio; Mrs. H.H. Scott of Royal Oak and Mrs. F. L. Harrison of Bad Axe and two brothers, Archie B. of Grand Rapids and D. W. Smith of New York.
Funeral services will eb held at 3:30 PM Friday in the Metcalf chapel with rev. Paul Markham officiatin. Burial will be in Rosedale Memorial park.
