| Death* | Sarah LOUISA Shier died on 30 August 1925 in St. Marys, Perth County, Ontario, Canada, at age 69; Mrs. W. H. Marshall, an active social and religious worker of the town passes on Sunday: The community was shocked on Sunday to learn of the sudden and unexpected passing of one of the town's highly esteened and most dearly beloved citizens in the person of Mrs. W. H. Marshall, North Ward. Mrs. Marshall was a woman whose every thought was for the betterment of mankind. She had been an active worker in the Methodist church practically all her life, first at Kirkton and later in St. Mary's. At both placed she was a teacher in the Sunday School for years and since coming to St. Mary's has filled executive positions in practically all departments of the church. For twenty-five years she was District Organizer of the Missionary Society, ten years of which she spent in the Exeter District and fifteen years in the Stratford District. She was a strong supported of the temperance movement and had been County Superintendent of the Mothers Department of the W. C. T. U. Mrs. Marshall took a great deal of interest in politics. She was a staunch supporter of the Conservative party. Mrs. Marshall whose maiden name was Sarah Louise Shier, was a daughter of the late Nicholas Shier and was born on the fourteenth concession of Usborne, seventy years ago. In 1880 she was married to the late William Henry Marshall who predeceased her on February 23, 1914. The young couple lived in the twelfth concession until about the year 1890 when they moved to Kirkton and started a general store which is now owned by E. N. Shier. Here they lived for some time and finally seventeen years ago Mr and Mrs Marshall moved to St. Mary's and took up residence on Peel Street and later in the present home, corner of Jardine and Wellington Streets. Mrs. Marshall had not been in her usual health since February last but was able to go about as usual. About a week before her death she contracted the prevalent summer "flu" which ultimately caused her death, she being in a run-down condition. She is survied by the following members of her family: C. F. Marshall and Mrs. (Dr.) W. D. Ferguson of Hamilton; Mrs. H. C. White and Mrs. P. G. Butcher, St Mary's; Ira N. of Kirkton; Mrs. (Dr.) R. I. Colquhoun of Glendale, Cal. and Miss Carrie Marshall of Winnipeg. She leaves to mourn her loss four sisters and four brothers, namely; Mar. | Married Name | As of 22 August 1970,her married name was Yandt. |
| Death* | Susan Ellen Shier died on 26 December 2025 at age 74; Susan Ellen Yandt, beloved wife, mother, nana, sister, and faithful follower of Jesus Christ, passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord on December 26, 2025, at the age of 74. Susan was the devoted wife of John Yandt for 55 years, and a loving mother to her daughters, Jennifer (the late Robert Whitworth) and Angela (Paul Mason). She was also a dear sister to Alice Wright, with whom she shared a lifelong bond. Her greatest earthly joy was her family, and she cherished her role as Nana to Taylor, Abigail, Kelly, Cassidy, Grace, Caleb, and Evelyn. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and she delighted in their lives and stories. Susan had a quiet, steady presence marked by kindness, loyalty, and care. She loved to read and enjoyed settling in to watch a good movie. She found great enjoyment in playing games—most recently Canasta—treasuring the laughter, conversation, and connection that came with time spent together. She also took delight in her salt and pepper shaker collection and could often be found enjoying a Dr Pepper, small pleasures that reflected her appreciation for simple joys. Summers held a special place in her heart, especially time spent at the family trailer at Muskoka Bible Centre in Huntsville—a favourite retreat where faith, rest, and family came together. A committed member of her church family, Susan’s faith in Jesus Christ shaped her life and anchored her hope. She lived with a gentle trust in God that carried her through both ordinary days and difficult seasons. Susan graduated from Uxbridge High School with a focus in business and went on to work faithfully at United Auto Parts, Canadian Tire, and Walmart. She approached her work with diligence and humility, forming many meaningful connections along the way. Susan will be deeply missed by her husband, children, sister, grandchildren, extended family, and friends, yet her family rejoices in the assurance that she is now fully healed and at home with Christ. Her life leaves a legacy of faith, love, and quiet strength that will continue to shape generations to come. Family and friends are invited to join us for a Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Goodwood Baptist Church, 283 Highway 47, Goodwood. A time of fellowship and lunch will follow. Friends are invited to send condolences at www.lowanlow.ca. |
