Death* | Rachel Doupe died on 23 March 1904 in Artemesia Twp., Flesherton, Grey County, Ontario, Canada, at age 84; Mrs. Rachel Doupe, the aged partner of Mr. Charles Doupe of this township, passed away on Wednesday of last week at the home of her son, Mr. Ephraim Doupe, west back line, at the age of 84 years. Mrs. Doupe was a native of County Limerick, Ireland. She was twice married, the first time to Nataniel Shier in 1840. They came to Canada in 1849, settling in the township of Blanchard. Mr. Shier died two weeks after his arrival in this country. The second marriage was contracted with Mr. Charles Doupe, who survives her. A few years after this second marriage the family moved to Egremont township in the year 1858, where they remained until 1874. In that year they came to Artemesia and have been highly respected residents of this township for the past 29 years. Mrs. Doupe was converted when sixteen years of age and joined the Methodist church, of which she has remained a steadfast member until the time of her death. While living in Blanchard her house was used for four years in which to hold church services and Sunday school. While in Egremont for three years her home was used for a like purpose and also as the home of the minister until a parsonage could be erected. Mrs. Doupe had a family of five children by her first husband, of whom the following are living: Samuel Shier of Cedarville, Francis of Portlaw and Mrs. Robert Kennedy, Toronto. The second family are all living as follows: Sidney and Amos of New Ontario, Mrs. Robt. Best, near Flesherton; Mrs. W. J. Spence of Toronto, and Ephraim on the old homestead. Ripe and full of years, the deceased lady has passed to her reward. The funeral took place at Flesherton cemetery on Friday afternoon, when the funeral service was conducted by her pastor, Rev. Ivison Wilson of Flesherton Methodist Church. Source: Ruth Haddow, Ancestry. |

Relationships | 7th great-grandson of Hans Adam Scheier 5th cousin 1 time removed of Roger Allan Shier 7th cousin 1 time removed of Keith Reginald Shier |

Birth* | Sam Doupe was born on 8 January 1994 in Ponoka, Alberta, Canada. |
Death* | He died on 25 September 2016 at age 22; Sam was born in Ponoka on January 8, 1994 to parents Trent and Joann Doupe. His sister Louise was born the following year. Sam was a very easy baby and was happy most of the time. At a young age it was evident that he was a farmer in the making. He loved anything with a steering wheel or a gas pedal. Sam was dad’s right hand man from early on. When his dad worked on the rigs, even at four years old, Sam could tell his mom how to do things. He may have been too small to do the actual work but he knew the mechanics of which lever needed to be moved. Sam liked to play farm downstairs or in the sand box. As he grew up he did all these things for real. He helped his dad with custom baling and manure hauling. He knew the cow/calf pairs as good as his dad and loved to be out there helping. He also loved to help his uncles whenever they needed a hand. He enjoyed outdoor activities with family and friends. In winter there was skating and ski-dooing, whether it be just a trip around the field or a group. In the summer he spent many happy times camping at Gull Lake. He loved being with his family and friends. In Sam’s teenage years he worked for various farmers doing anything that needed to be done. We also began to camp and quad in these years. We spent several years out west with family and friends making great memories. Sam’s friendship with Emily began several years ago. It was only in the last one-and-half years they became a couple. Sam loved Emily with all his heart and they were planning a life together. He is as much a member of the Jeffery family as he is the Doupe family. He was also a fierce protector of his sister and she knew he was always there and dependable, making sure she was okay. For Sam’s girl cousins, he was their brother and they knew if they ever needed him, he could be counted on. Sam loved children and they gravitated toward him. He was a great playmate to Hayden and sometimes it was hard to tell who was younger. Sam was confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church in 2008 and graduated from Ponoka Composite High School in 2012. Sam was a wonderful young man who was always kind and considerate. He was also very compassionate. Sam had a heart of gold and a huge appetite. He had many meals around the community and it was unanimous that he could eat A LOT! Sam was hard working and true to his word. He was loved by all who met him and he will always be remembered. On September 25, 2016 Sam passed away at the age of 22 years. “Though we cannot see you every day, your memories are our strength and our love for you will last forever.” A Funeral Service for Sam was held on Monday, October 3, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Stagecoach Saloon in Ponoka with Chaplain Rick Williams officiating. The Interment Service followed at the Dakota Cemetery. Donations in Sam’s name are gratefully accepted to the Stollery Children’s Hospital or The Alberta Cancer Foundation (Cross Cancer Institute).
