Special grandmother of Jamie (Monique), Bill, Cathy, Stephen, Kimberley, Adam, Tyler, and Leah. Sister of Ruth (Carman) Hamill of Massie and Edith Bergen of Owen Sound. Also survived by a sister-in-law Rhoda Shier of Owen Sound. Predeceased by one son Robert (1975), three sisters Freida Thompson, Bessie Kahel, Mary Jo Shier and two brothers Allan Shier and Everett Shier. The family will receive friends at the George Funeral Home 430 Mary Street, Wiarton on Monday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. The funeral service will be conducted from the Pike Bay United Church on Tuesday September 13th at 11:00 AM with Rev. Audrey Brown officiating. Interment, Colpoy's Bay Cemetery. She was predeceased by her parents, Wilfred and Margaret Shier, her husband, Russell, and her daughter Maureen Orban. Irene will be lovingly remembered by her son, Glen (Chitra) Benedict and their children, Manish, Priya and Meenuka Singh and her grandchildren, Michael and Kory Orban. was born and raised on a farm ten miles south of Chinook, Alberta. She received a teaching certificate from Calgary Normal School and Bachelors of Commerce and Education and Masters of Education from the University of Alberta. Irene taught in Alberta schools for 35 years, 29 of which were as a teacher and counselor at Victoria Composite High School in Edmonton. At the same time, due to the early passing of her husband, she raised her two children as a single parent. She was a dedicated and devoted parent. She will be greatly missed. family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at Canterbury Lane and the nurses and doctors on 7 east at the Misericordia Hospital for the excellent care that was provided to Irene. Irene’s request, cremation has taken place and a private family service was held. |

Marg is also survived by her sister Grace Smith in Nelson B.C. Loving grandmother to Carrie (Dane), Krista, Lindsay (Jeff), Jaclynn (Mike), Dean (Brandy) and Dallas (Brianna). Marg was also great-grandmother to Rylee, Blake, Zoe, Jade, Cohen, Hera, Sophie, Gwendolyn, Brooklyn and Avery. Marg was an employee of the Bank of Montreal in Hespeler, Ontario while raising her family there and was an active member of the United Church in Hespeler. Marg's love of music followed her in retirement when she joined the Sauble Beach Community Choir. Marg was an avid gardener, knitter, quilter and pet lover. She was an accomplished seamstress, making all our childhood clothes as well as our graduation and wedding gowns. She was an accomplished cook and baker---- our mother was the original Martha Stewart as there was not a thing she couldn't create in the kitchen. Our home was always filled with humour, love and support. We will miss you dearly mom. Rest in peace. Love your family. The family would sincerely like to thank the Meaford Long Term Care facility and their employees for the great care mom received over the years there, especially through some trying times. Dearly loved wife of Gord for 20 years. Much loved mom of Wendy Ireland and her husband Jeff and Mark Elsden and his wife Kim. Cherished Grandma of Jane, Mitchell, Noah, Grace and Abi. Predeceased by her father Fred Shier and mother Alice Shier (Kinghorn). Marie was a loving sister and best friend to Carolyn Lowery (Tom) and Wendy Kobayashi (Les). Marie will be remembered for her devotion to her family and her favourite pastimes – travel, gardening, walking, yoga, curling, Lionesses Club of Lakefield, Lakefield Red Hatters and Young’s Point United Church. She will be missed by all who were touched by her and especially by her furry baby Cleo. Marie’s career in Nursing included serving a short term at Oshawa General Hospital, and 25 years of service at General Motors, Oshawa. Marie’s family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for the care and compassion she received from the PSW’s, nurses and all staff at Lakefield Extendicare for taking such great care of Marie. Arrangements entrusted with Ashburnham funeral home, Peterborough. In accordance with Marie’s wishes, cremation has already taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at Young's Point United Church, on Saturday March 5th at 1 pm with a reception to follow. If desired, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society. |

Survived by mother Leona Shier. Predeceased by father, Harvey Shier in August 2009. She was in her 63rd year. Mom had previously suffered from a rare disease called Wegener’s granulomatosis in September 2005. We miss her very much and are glad for every memory of her.visitation is planned for Saturday November 20th, 2010 from 2-4pm at West Richmond Gospel Hall, 5651 Francis Road , Richmond , B.C. The funeral service will be held at the same venue on Monday, November 22nd, 2010 at 2:30pm. |
