Aphysicist and professor at Clemson University for 35 years, he previously been a research scientist at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in, CA. For several summers Dr. Burt flew his own plane daily from to work at Oak Ridge until a forced landing in an East Tennessee cowended his piloting career. He was a graduate of the University of, where he was Grand Master of Kappa Sigma Fraternity andin-Chief of the student paper. He was a former member of the Board ofof the UTK physics department. He is survived by: his wife, Harriet; four children, Beth Lynn Burt, Konni Burt Shier, Syd Burt Hackworth,Timothy Clack Burt; and two grandchildren, Lilly Marie Hackworth and"Keiki" Justice Shier. Dr. Burt was predeceased by another, Olivia Tinsley Shier. There will be a memorial service, Aug. 12, at Clemson First Baptist Church, which he attended for30 years and where he sang in the choir. Memorials may be made to theUniversity Foundation for the R.M. Cooper Library's collection ofmaterials. The family will be at the home, 505 Tiger Terrace, SC, 29678. Morris Butcher, husband, father, son, brother, friend, lawyer and mentor, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at the Southwood Hospice in Calgary, Alberta. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Linda; his mother, Margaret; his six children Shannon (Ronny; Lauren, Daniel, Thomas), Catherine (Steven; Steven Junior, Ryan), Mae (Islam; Abdullah, Adnan, Aasiyah), John (Punteha), Jane (Saptarshi; Dia), and Philip (Ghizlane); his sisters Joan and Glenda (Paul) and brother Gordon (Pat). Morris' passions were entertaining family and friends in his rose garden, travelling the world, tennis, advocating for others and hiking especially in the Rocky Mountains. God has a special path for each of us and although not every path is as long as we hoped, we have to cherish the joyful moments we shared in the journey with Morris.
