He served in the Canadian Armed Forces – The 12th Manitoba Dragoons through France, Belgium, Holland and Germany from 1942 – 1946. A Memorial Service will take place at the Arthur Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at 1 pm. Mr. Gene Monin officiating. Interment at St. Luke's Columbarium. Rich was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan on September 13, 1943, the son of the late Glenn McGahey and Mable Irene (Meehan) Carver-McGahey. He served his country in the U.S. Navy. On September 1, 1962, he married Mary Louise Costello in Flint, Michigan. Rich worked for many years as the communications director for LSSU and then in retirement he worked as a security guard at the Soo Locks. He enjoyed hunting, shooting, and watching Red Wing hockey. He was an avid fisherman, who fished in places like Alaska, Canada, and Montana. Rich and Mary enjoyed going to Florida each year for over 20 years. He was a member of the Dafter Lions Club.
Rich is survived by his wife: Mary Louise McGahey; five children: Shawn (Christopher) Pertunen of Petoskey, MI, Suzanne (Andrew) Harder of California, Catherine (Peter) Leclerc of Traverse City, MI, Richard (Nicole) McGahey II of Hersey, MI, and Shannon (Jeff) Van Oflen of Arizona; nine grandchildren: Nicholas, Cody, Brett, Drew, Adam, Matt (Jurilda), Nate, Thomas, and Maggie; and a brother: James (Dorothy) Carver.
Rich was preceded in death by his parents, a great granddaughter: Zoi; and three brothers: Don, Bob, and Bill Carver.
A celebration will be held at Rich's home in June. |

Elaine will also be missed by her grandchildren; Kendra and Kiera Garagan, Matthew and Jake Anderson, Kevin, Jack and Katie Shier, Lily Turner, Madeleine and Macallum Harvey. Elaine was predeceased by her parents Vera, Rowland and her stepfather Alex. Elaine was a devoted mother and grandmother, and even across the miles, her love was always felt deeply by her family.
