Husband of Elizabeth (MacKay)(Shier). Father of Tom (Pam), Rebecca (James), and Janice (Rob). Fondly remembered by Michael and Amie Shier and Chris and Karen Shier. Brother of Bev (Ruby), Jim (Daphne), the late Dan (Ruth) and the late Cal (Lynne). Also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church 56 Thames Street South, Ingersoll on Friday, September 9, 2016 at 11 am with our friend the Reverend Dr. David Thompson officiating. Cremation has taken place and a private inurnment will be held at a later date. Donations to Alexandra Hospital Foundation, Sakura House, or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the McBeath-Dynes Funeral Home 519-425-1600.

On Jan. 4, David Bruce Stiner died at regional hospital in Kingston, the release said.

At the time of his death, Stiner, 70, had been serving a life sentence for first degree murder since October 18, 1982.

The inmate’s next of kin have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the coroner have been notified, and the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.

Death*Elwood RUSSELL Stiner died on 24 May 2016 in Kingston, Frontenac County, Ontario, Canada, at age 68; Russ was born in Uxbridge on the kitchen table in a home he would share with his brothers Doug, Paul and David and his only sister Betty. The family later included Peter and Michael.He marveled that Betty survived six brothers. He spoke often of his parents, the struggles and hardships the family experienced and of the love they had for their kids. A great regret of his was not teaching his father to read. Russ loved the warm weather and spent many years wintering in Florida where he met his future wife Donna K Wells, a native Floridian.They married in Gananoque, Ont on June 21, the summer equinox. He always joked it was the longest day of his life! Their children are: Isaak Wimbley, Aaron Albert, David Russell (dec), Rebecca Elizabeth and Rachael Evangeline. His grandchildren are Royce Russell and Daisy Lynn. He enjoyed a great relationship with his father in law Wimbley Donald Wells. They shared many laughs and good times both in Bonita Springs and St. Augustine. His mother in law Loyce was a bit quirky but they loved and respected each other except for the time she got seasick on his boat.Russ was quite a character but took his responsibility as a father seriously. He taught all his kids to read, to swim, to fish, to garden and to enjoy life. He spent many happy hours boating with them on the Gulf of Mexico. He was a Boy Scout dad and a Girl Scout Dad. He was silly, funny, smart, firm and loving. With a bit of duck tape he could fix anything but he never quite got the hang of computers and smart phones. He has left a void that can never be filled but we will keep him alive in our hearts and minds with wonderful stories and magical memories. Three grandchildren born after his death: Isabel, Orson and Michael.

Ruby a native of Magnolia, Arkansas and a long-time resident of Lansing, Michigan passed away Friday, June 5, 2020 at 8:55 PM at Robinwood Landing Alzheimer's Special Care Center of Lansing Mi. at the age of 83.

A joint memorial service and funeral Mass will be held at a later date for both Ruby Lee Shier and her husband James L. Shier, who passed a few short weeks earlier on April 15, 2020. Jim and Ruby will be interred at the Fort Custer National Cemetery of Battle Creek on (Date and Time to be determined) for those who wish to attend the military burial.

Ruby is survived by one daughter Rhonda Sullivan, and two sons, Terry Millican, Joey Meyers; and daughter-in-law Janice Meyers. sister and brother-in-law Theresa and Gene Bentz, and sister-in-law Mary Ruth Stockwell as well brother-in-law, Larry Shier, and sister-in-law Alice (Shier) Prior. Ruby was also the proud grandmother of nine grandchildren: Matthew Millican, Daniel Millican, Kris Millican, Greg Johnson, Natalie Johnson, Paula Johnson, Jennifer Johnson, Darie Meyers-Russo, Kyle Meyers, and 11 great grandchildren, and six nieces and nephews from the Shier family.

Ruby was briefly preceded in death by her husband James (Jim) Shier. She was also preceded in death by her parents: Garfield and Ruby Helene Stockwell, brother Arthur Stockwell. Sadly, no grandparent should have to experience the heartbreak of losing four grandchildren and one great grandchild as Ruby did -they are: Matthew Millican, Kris Millican, Greg Johnson and Cpl. Kyle J. Meyers, and great grandchild, Joshua Attardi. Also preceding her in death were her sisters-in-law Mary (Shier) Donovan, Cathy Shier, Margaret (Shier) Hendrix and brothers-in-law Bernard Shier, Robert Shier, and Larry Donovan.

Ruby was an active member in her local church communities, she loved to play the piano and had a sweet tooth especially for ice cream. Her friends and caregivers at Robinwood Landing were very fond of both Jim and Ruby . And shared that Jim would always bring her special treats, and that Ruby was always willing to "work" for ice cream.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association ( To Donate ) and the Robinwood Landing Special Activity Fund (1634 Lake Lansing Rd., Lansing, MI 48912.
