Verna along with her husband moved to the 6th Concession in the spring of 1960 to take up dairy farming. She spent many hours in the barn milking the cows. She also loved her vegetable garden in the summer. Verna will be sadly missed by family, friends and neighbours. Family and friends will be received at the Low & Low Funeral Home, Uxbridge (23 Main Street South, Uxbridge, ON, 905-852-3073) on Friday, May 1, 2015 from 7-9pm. A service celebrating Verna’s life will take place on Saturday, May 2, 2015at 1 p.m. in the chapel with visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Reception to follow. Internment at Foster Memorial Cemetery. In Verna’s memory donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Uxbridge Cottage Hospital would be greatly appreciated. |

Born in Bible Hill on August 18, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Daisy (Barnaby) Harvey. She lived all her life in Truro, retiring to Brookfield in 1970. She was employed for 10 years in the office of the late Dr. J. B. Reid, a short while for the late Dr. Ken Sheppard and the late Dr. Rowe. She worked as a bookkeeper for various businesses including Truro Volkswagon, Margolians, four years at Wilson’s Fuels Ltd. and as payroll clerk for the Colchester Regional School Board. She enjoyed doing crafts, baking and spending time with her family. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Lloyd; son, Jim (Jean), Keirstead Mountain, NB; daughter, Becky (Steve) Baird, Bible Hill; grandchildren, Scott (Gayle) O’Donnell, Andrea (Derrick) Gunter, Erin (Steve) Hughson, Elizabeth Baird and Victoria Baird; nine great-grandchildren; nieces, Carolyn (Jack) Dodge, Krista (Mike) MacLeod. Besides her parents, she as predeceased by son Randy and brother, Rodney. Cremation has taken place. No visitation by request. A family graveside service will be held at the time of interment in Watson Cemetery. Shirley was an amazing mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will always be remembered for offering up a tasty treat as you walked in the door, regardless if it was at 9 at night or 9 in the morning.

Survived by her soulmate Stewart, of almost 75 years, as well as numerous nieces/nephews, great nieces/nephews and their families across Canada and the USA. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Margaret Shier (Oxbow).
Lorraine was predeceased by her parents Olla Belle and Charles Haughton, 7 siblings and their spouses, and 7 Shier in-laws and 6 of their spouses.
Lorraine grew up on the Haughton farm in the Wheatland District, SW of Carnduff. As young adults Lorraine and Stewart traveled and worked at Youbou on Vancouver Island for a few years before returning to Carnduff, where she and Stewart took up farming. Life was full and busy, working a full time job in retail, caring for her aging mother, and she also enjoyed keeping up to-date with the lives of her extended family. She loved company whether for tea and a visit or an impromptu meal, there was always space at their table for her many cherished friends and relatives.
She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, her daily morning walks, her annual vegetable garden as well as the odd trip to the casino. Lorraine and Stewart also belonged to the local Square Dancing group for many years, Legion and enjoyed travels throughout Canada, USA, and Mexico. Although her favourite location to return each winter season was White Rock, B.C., where she enjoyed many life long friendships and catching up with family.
A graveside service for Lorraine will be held in the spring of 2026 at the Carnduff Cemetery. Service information (date/time) will be announced closer to that time.

D Hawkes died on 3 April 2021 at age 77; It is with great sadness that the children of Andrew Hawkes announce the passing of their beloved father on Saturday April 3rd 2021, following an extended illness. He was preceded by the passing of his wife Alma Anne (McEvoy) Hawkes in 2013.
Andrew, or Andy as most may have known him, was born in Newcastle, New Brunswick on September 15th, 1943 to his late parents Rev. Cyrus Alvin and Marjorie (Baldwin) Hawkes.
He was a graduate of Rothesay Academy and The University of New Brunswick (1964). A career in engineering and management followed shortly afterwards, living and working in Canada, Jamaica, Florida, The Philippines, England, and India. Andy moved back to Canada in 2006 to work in Halifax, and retired in 2009 to Blackville, NB.
During his retirement, he became active in local and provincial politics, first serving on the MRDC Committee, and then becoming the mayor of Blackville from 2013 to 2016. Andy also served on the Board of Directors of the GBRC, as well as the Josie Foundation. He attended Trinity Anglican Church, where he served on the vestry, was a member of the corporation, and a synod delegate for the parish of Derby and Blackville.
In addition to his community interests, he was an avid student of the history of New Brunswick and family genealogy. Andy was a great fan of hockey, particularly his previous hometown Tampa Bay Lightning. He also had a lifelong connection to St. George and Lake Utopia and greatly enjoyed spending time there with family and friends.
He is survived by his children Christopher (Kathryn) Hawkes of Palm Harbor, FL , Daniel (Tammy) Hawkes of Pinellas Park, FL, and Angela Hawkes of Clearwater, FL; brother David (Sally) Hawkes of Ottawa, Ontario, sisters Margaret (John) Larlee of Fredericton, NB and Marian (Douglas) Cottrell of Fredericton, NB; his special friend Trudy Underhill; grandson Zachary Hawkes and several cousins, nephews and nieces.
He will be greatly missed by many of us, and particularly by his family and close friends across New Brunswick who had the opportunity to know him well. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may consider making a memorial donation to the Josie Foundation charitable organization.
Andrew Hawkes is resting at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Blackville with Visitation on Friday from 7-9. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 2pm at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Blackville with Father Gerry Laskey and Archdeacon John Matheson officiating. Burial will be in the family plot of St. Bridget’s Church Cemetery at a later date.
