Fact 1*

In August 1997, Harvey Roscoe Shier drew a sketch of the sawmill setup that was owned by James St. John Jr. on E1/2 Lot 5 Conc. 6 Brock Twp. It appears that he drew this sketch at the request of Dr. Russell St. John who wrote a history of the St. John Family. These are the comments that accompanied the sketch.

"There was a saw mill behind the St. John house, down by the creek. First it was powered by water and when the dam went out they installed a steam engine. Later it may have been moved to Ray Brethour's farm. I do not know that. I was in the mill once when I was a very tiny boy with my father. In later years we played among the wreckage of the mill and fished at the wrecked pond dam. My father and I later picked berries in this same area and he showed and explained the details and layout of the old mill.

My father was Julius Shier the son of Loftus Shier. We lived on the farm west of the St. John farm and mill, between the St. John you mention and the Samuel St. John farm.
