It is with heavy hearts that we share the sudden passing of our dear Mom, Nana, Sister and Friend at Riverside Place Long Term Care, Windsor, on Saturday, January 13, 2024, formerly of Markdale in her 77th year. She is reunited with her late husband Eric (2022). Loving mother of Paula Vanthournout (Ian Baird) of Belle River and Jon-Paul McArthur (Trish Knapp) of Markdale. Cherished Nana of Samantha (Austin) Vanthournout and Justin Vanthournout, Ashley (Luke) McArthur and Garrett (Kylie) McArthur. Dear sister of Steven (Betty) Stainsby of Cambridge, Joann Nunn of Woodstock, Louise Driessen of Port Elgin, Peggy Driessen of Southampton. Survived by her step-father Louis Driessen of Durham. Predeceased by sister Susan Tye, brother David Stainsby and her parents Joseph and Peggy Stainsby. Special Nana to Josh, Destiny and Tyler Cando and Tyler Veitch. Janet will be missed by many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
Janet was born November 13, 1947 in Owen Sound, moved to Markdale and was married to her late husband Eric for 29 happy years. Janet owned her own clothing store in Markdale, “Total Fashions”, and worked for CFOS Owen Sound as a news reporter for a number of years. Janet graduated from the Ontario Real Estate College and became a Real Estate Agent in Grey County for several years. Later in life Janet graduated from Georgian College in Owen Sound where she attained her Personal Support Worker Certification and worked as a PSW before retiring. Janet loved to bake, cook and play Bingo especially with “Stola”. She was an avid traveller who spent time in Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Florida, the East Coast of Canada and spent many winters in South Carolina. Janet loved spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren during the summer at Sauble Beach, her most favourite place in the world.
A private family service will be held Wednesday January 17, 2024. Cremation will take place followed by spring entombment in Markdale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Markdale District Food Bank or the Canadian Mental Health Association Grey Bruce – Markdale would greatly appreciated. Cecil served in the Canadian armed Forces during WW11 for a total of 29 years achieving the rank of Lieutenant. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for over 40 years and a member of Lions Club for a number of years including being on the executive of both. He was a devoted husband , loving father, grandfather, brother and a great cook and gardener.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday November 7th, 2012, from 7-9 PM at Chatterson Funeral Home Collingwood, followed by a funeral service in the chapel on Thursday at 1 PM.
Interment at Creemore Union Cemetery.
Donations made to Community Living, Salvation Army or the Poppy Fund would be appreciated. |

She will be lovingly remembered by her three daughters Betty Lou (Larry) Tully, of Portage la Prairie, Gail (Wayne) Clisby of Winnipeg, and Lana (David) Wilmot of Ponoka, AB, eight grandchildren, five great-children and special nieces, Bonnie and Wendy. Edna grew up and lived in Carnduff, SK until entering the Misericordia School of Nursing in Winnipeg, MB graduating in 1945. Edna then moved back home to Carnduff as a new bride, living in the farming district of Florence, where she was always ready to lend a helping and supportive hand to family and neighbours. After Frank's passing, she moved to Winnipeg to be closer to her daughters, taking up residence at the The Westhaven, where she lived for 11 wonderful years, making new friends. There she enjoyed many outings and activities doing her favourite things ie: shopping, theater and restaurants. Illness brought her to reside at Calvary Place Personal Care Home, for the past three years. Grandma was blessed to have her dear grand- daughter Dana, at her bed side during her final hours. Edna will be remembered as a gentle, compassionate and elegant lady, by the many lives she touched. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Calvary Place with special thanks to the staff on 3 South, for their loving care and compassion. A service of remembrance will be held in the summer of 2011 at her home town of Carnduff SK at a date to be determined. Lovingly remembered by his sister Marion Hennige-Austin of Elmira, predeceased by his parents Ezra and Martha (nee Holt), his brother Allen Steckly and four brothers in law. Edward served in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1952 to 1971, he will be missed by all whose lives he touched. Special thanks to the entire staff and support workers at Westmount Long Term Care Center for their loving attention and care.
