Merv was born on the family farm near Lenore, Manitoba on November 16, 1936. He spent his childhood and teen years working on the farm and attending Hamiota School. It was at church where he saw that 14-year-old dark haired beauty that he knew he would one day marry. Marj and Merv were married November 19, 1955. They moved to Brandon where Merv started working for Brandon Paint and Glass. In 1971, Merv ventured out and started his own business, Keystone Glass Ltd. He retired at the age of 75, but still loved visiting and checking out the jobs. Merv was a founding member of Calvary Temple, and was dedicated to the people and ministries of the church. He was a caring and compassionate man, who was always there to help others. Merv loved his wife and family dearly and was so proud of each one of them. He enjoyed all the family times spent together. Merv is also survived by grandchildren Jordan (Allison) Dalzell, Jessica (Andrew) Hansen, Braden (Ashley) Gurr, Sarah (Brett) Morgan, Joshua Dalzell. Great-grandchildren: Kyler, Declan, Charlotte and Violet. His siblings: Lorraine (John) Hersey, Merrilyn (Bruce) Nehring, Glen (Marilyn) Gurr and families. Merv was predeceased by his parents Samuel and Ethel Gurr, and in-laws Nick and Bertha Komarnisky. Sam was born April 27, 1911 in Spy Hill, Saskatchewan. At only 11 months old he and parents, Albert and Bertha Gurr, moved to Arrow River, Manitoba. Sam attended school there and later in Crandall. He loved to curl and play baseball. He later went to college in Winnipeg to study agriculture. Sam attended the old Wesley Church, which is the present location of Winnipeg Calvary Temple. There he committed his life to the Lord. Returning from college he became interested in Ethel Hazlewood, and on November 1, 1934 they were married on the Hazlewood homestead. They began farming and later moved to Oakner and then Hamiota. He won many ribbons showing cattle, horses and sheep. He went into the dairy business with Registered Holsteins. In 1956 they moved to Brandon and built a milking parlour and two large silos. Again he won many red ribbons showing cattle. Sam also served on milk producer and fair boards. In 1969 Sam retired and he and Ethel spent six winters in Florida. In the summer he loved the campground life. Sam was a founding member of Brandon Calvary Temple and served as the church treasurer and as a board member. He also had a large library of books and music. Sam was predeceased by his parents; Albert and Bertha Gurr, brothers; Bob and Cecil and sister; Mabel. Left to cherish his beautiful memories are his loving wife; Ethel, four children; Lorraine (John) Hersey, Merv (Marj) Gurr, Merrilyn (Bruce) Nehring, and Glen (Marilyn) Gurr, 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, sister; Emily Gurr and brothers; Bert (Vera) Gurr and Russ Gurr. The Funeral Service was held at Memories Chapel on Wednesday, January 3, 2001. Rev. Ron Pierce officiated. Interment was at the Brandon Cemetery. A Proud Grandpa to three strapping grandsons; Cole Hughes, Lane Cowan, and Kason Martin, and granddaughter, Adalyn Martin who keeps us all in line. Don was the eldest son of the Late William Franklin Guthrie (2016) and Jacqulin Betty (Rose) Guthrie. Dearest Brother of Wilma Smith (Ted), Neil, Dwight (Linda), Jennifer Jones (Paul). He will also be greatly missed by many cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends. He was raised on a Beef Farm in Whitby, Ontario and was a 4H and Junior Farmer Member. Don started driving truck at 17 years old. During his 48 years of trucking, he hauled feed, freight and heavy equipment. He and his family moved to Mount Elgin, Ontario in 1992 to haul cars for ACL and MCL out of Putnam, Ontario. He was a member of Audley United Church, Ajax and Junior Councillor at Camp Quin-Mo-Lac, Tweed. The very thing he loved the most was visiting with family and friends. He worked for Bell Aircraft Corp. as an internal auditor and administrative assistant from 1952 to 1959, then lived in Virginia from 1959 to 1968, working as an administrator for two defense contracting firms. Returning to Western New York, he was an internal auditor and senior accountant for the Durez Division of Hooker Chemical Corp., then became accounting manager and property accounting manager in Hooker Chemical's office in Niagara Falls. He retired in 1982. In retirement, he worked as a consultant for Taylor Devices Corp. Active in the Buffalo Chapter of the National Association of Accountants, he served for eight years on its board of directors and was president in 1977-78. He and Agnes Warren were married in 1949. In addition to his wife, survivors include four sons, Paul, Steven and Jeffrey, all of Buffalo, and Robert of Bradenton, Florida; three daughters, Nancy Tidd of the City of Tonawanda, Julie of Bradenton and Cynthia McDonald of Amherst; a brother, Richard of Springdale, Ohio; three sisters, Patricia Davis of Amherst, Joan Warwick of Lynchburg, Virginia, and Mary Lou of the Town of Tonawanda; and 12 grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:45 a.m. Thursday in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 1085 Englewood Avenue, Town of Tonawanda, after prayers at 9:15 in C. She was a happy and loving mother and homemaker, taking care of her two children and volunteering in support of their various activities. When her daughter left for college and her son was a junior in high school, Bebe became an instructional aide for the English Department at Madera High School, where she worked for 15 years. Bebe also began a second career as a travel agent for Madera Travel. She and John traveled to many wonderful places including Ireland, Europe, Australia and China. As time went on, most of their travel was limited to visiting their family and friends throughout California and the western United States. loved spending time and taking trips with her grandchildren. She was very pleased when her granddaughter made her a great grandmother in 2009, with the birth of a daughter. was an active member of the Italian Catholic Federation, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, the St. Joachim Altar and Rosary Society, and she also volunteered at the Saint Vincent DePaul Thrift Store. passed away peacefully on February 3, 2011 after a long illness. is survived by her loving husband of 61 years John. Her two children, a daughter and son, and their spouses; six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. of Christian Burial was conducted on February 9th at at St. Joachim Catholic Church in Madera.
