Dear brother of Margaret Barber (late Clarence) of Renfrew. Predeceased by his parents: William and Katherine (nee Emon) Piasetzki; a brother, Donald (Georgina of Gananoque) and a sister, Liala Gilchrist (late Wellington). Also survived by his nieces and nephews. John’s final care has been entrusted to the Pilon Family Funeral Home and Chapel Ltd., 50 John Street North, Arnprior where a private family visitation and service will take place. Her parents were Ellen and Percy Pickering, and she was raised with her older brothers Tom and Harry, and her younger sister Margaret, or Peggy, who died at only five years old.worked as a comptometer operator for CN Railways where she met Fred Baker. They married on June 7, 1947 and moved into their new home on Bannatyne Ave., where Kay remained for almost 60 years. They were blessed with three children - Brenda, Judy, and Dan. They enjoyed happy years at home, at Kay’s family’s cottage at Loni Beach, and on numerous road trips. Fred died suddenly in November 1964, and Kay was left to raise her children who were only 13, 11 and 8 years old. Her strong and independent nature saw her through the next years. She not only raised her children but was very involved with Fred’s elderly mother and his sisters, and with her own parents as they became more dependent upon her help. 1968 she bought a cottage at Winnipeg Beach for the family. It was the site of many good times, and a haven that was only an hour away.Brenda, Judy and Dan each married and had families, she enjoyed her grandchildren very much. She had a great sense of humour and fun. Her home was a comfortable, welcoming, and always casual place where anyone was welcome to drop in for tea and baked treats. Butter tarts were her specialty.is survived by: daughter Brenda (Wally) Serger, grandson Chris (Lucille), granddaughter Bronwen (Chris) Kelley and great-granddaughter Brynn; daughter Judy (Rocky) Lodwick, granddaughter Blythe and grandsons Andrew (Melissa Maskus) and Ian; son Dan (Susan), granddaughters Dana (Kristian Andres) and Kendra (Brett) Stewart and great-granddaughter Keightley.also leaves one niece and three nephews, Sharon Fox, Al (Helen), Don (Louise), and Ken (Diane) Pickering and their families.was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, grand and great-grandmother, friend and neighbour. Throughout her life she was usually looking after someone. She had time for people, and her help and hospitality could always be counted on. She was humble, but strong, independent and resourceful. She leaves us with many great memories.family extends its warmest thanks to the 2nd floor staff at Golden West Centennial Lodge for their wonderful care of Kay through her last several years. and a family celebration of Kay’s life and interment have taken place. He also enjoyed the game of golf, and served both as President of Uplands Golf Club as well as Director of the BC Golf Association. John was predeceased in 2003 by his wife of 57 years, Jean. He will always be lovingly remembered and missed by his daughters Valerie Demisch and Tracy Green; his grandchildren Robert and Carolyn Demisch; and his son-in-law Christopher Demisch. John lived a life filled with family, service to his community and a love for life. Travelling throughout Canada and the U.S. with his wife the late Janette (nee MacDonald) and then with his loving partner Gloria. He was always happy to return home to his roots building his legacy at the family cottage on Foote Lake. His service to the community included starting his own T.V. and appliance repair Business, Home Hardware and Home Furniture dealer for 48 years, Brock Township Volunteer Firefighter for 47 years, Boy Scout Leader, Sunderland Lions Club member, Sunderland Business Association and supporter of both St. Andrews United Church in Sunderland and Trinity United Church in Cannington.
John’s family (Team John) would like to thank Lakeridge Health Port Perry staff, Oak Ridges Hospice staff and the doctors for the support and loving care John was given during his brief illness. Memorial donations can be directed to Oak Ridges Hospice www.oakridgeshospice.com, or the Port Perry Hospital Foundation www.pphfoundation.ca. John is dearly loved and will be missed by Gloria, George and Carrie, Charlene and Lorne, Kristina and Luke, Kelly and Dave, Dan and Todd: grandchildren Alicia, Brooklyn, Cara, Meghan and Jerry, Ben, and Daniel Roman, Ashlyn, Seth, Carson, Quade, Owen, Auston, Devon and great grandson Cyrus: and his sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, and so many cousins.
The family will greet visitors at St. Andrew’s United Church in Sunderland on Saturday, November 30th, 2024 from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. with a Celebration of his Life service held on Sunday, December 1st, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. in the Church. Reception to follow at the Sunderland Legion. Private graveside burial will have already taken place at the Sunderland Cemetery.
