She moved to Calgary in the early 1970s and was employed with Collins Barrow for thirty years where she was a valued member of the staff. Her family circle was of utmost importance to her. She generously donated a kidney to her brother Jim. Besides her loving husband John, Gail is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Tony and Cheryl Rodericks and Lorne and Kelly Sturtevant of Calgary; five grandchildren, Cody, Katelyn, Sunny-Lee, Chelsey and Julia-Ann. She is also survived by her father William (friend Myrtle), sisters and brothers, Sylvia (Richard), Carol Lee (Donnie), Jim (Lisa) and Dennis (Brenda) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Gail was predeceased by her mother Beatrice. Funeral service will be held in the chapel of the Omega Funeral Home on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at 4:00 p.m. with the Reverend Jona Weitzel officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery. William was born on October 14, 1924 in St. Boniface, Manitoba, son of Jack and Edith Robb. He was raised and received his education in the Harcus and Leifur Districts of Manitoba. He proudly served overseas in the Second World War, and was wounded while serving in Italy. He continued to serve until the end of the war. He returned to the family farm and later started his own farm in the Leifur Area. He married Beatrice Shotbolt on October 7, 1950 and together they had five children. He farmed and fished commercially with his brother John. He retired with Beatrice to Portage in 1999. William was very family and community orientated, as well as a very strong role model to his children and grandchildren. He loved to garden, fish, dance, and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Langruth Branch. Predeceased by his wife Beatrice, daughter Gail, sister May, he leaves to continue his legacy his children, Sylvia (Richard), Carol Lee (Donnie), Jim (Lisa), Dennis (Brenda); 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and his special friend Myrtle. Also surviving is one brother John (Bernice), many nieces, nephews and in-laws. Friends may call at the funeral home for visitation prior to the service. Should friends so desire, memorial donations may be made in William's name to a charity of your choice. Rilla was born in Osprey Township to Milton and Bertie Roberts. Rilla was a strong woman of faith who had unconditional love for everyone. Her family was the most important thing in her life. Her greatest joy was spending time with all the grandchildren. She was extremely proud of each and every one. They always brought a smile to her face.
Funeral service will be held from the Osprey Community Centre on Thursday, October 12 at 11am. In memorial of Rilla, memorial contributions to Mount Pleasant Church would be greatly appreciated. |

Jean then attended Ontario Teacher’s College in Peterborough. Jean’s first teaching assignment was in Tyrone Ontario with her soon to be sister-in-law Anne Robertson (nee Moreland). Jean married Neil McNiven in 1963 and she moved to Oro Township. They were married for more than 57 years. Jean had numerous teaching assignments in Simcoe County including Johnston Street (Barrie), Steele Street (Barrie), Guthrie, East Oro, Central and Couchiching Heights. Jean was best known as a kindergarten teacher as she held that position at many of the schools she taught in. In addition to her long teaching career, Jean was also a busy farm wife and mother to four kids (John, Andy, Heather & Bonnie). Jean was also active in local church activities at Willis Presbyterian Church and held offices in the local Women’s Missionary Society. Jean encouraged and supported her children to participate in numerous 4-H activities and to pursue post-secondary education. Jean and Neil were named Oro-Medonte Senior Citizens of the year in 2009. Jean leaves behind her loving husband Neil, children John (Sheryl), Andy (Lisa), Heather Nixon (Jeremy) and Bonnie Strachan (Paul). Jean also leaves behind grandchildren Sarah, Everett, Hugh, Alec, Lucy, William, Caroline, Isabelle and Josey. Jean is also survived by her two Brothers Bob (Donna) and John (Anne) Robertson, her McNiven sister in-laws, Alice Anderson and Dorothy Millar as well as cousins, nieces and nephews. We would like to thank the staff of Trillium Manor for their care of Jean over the past number of years. He is survived by his wife Anne (Moreland), his children Bruce (Julie), Carrie Pilgrim (George) and Ruth Anne Robertson, and his brother Bob (Donna). Predeceased by his parents, Elmer and Carrie Robertson (Speiran) and his sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Neil McNiven. His spirit lives on in his grandchildren, Alicia, Cara, and Ben Pilgrim and John and Matthew Robertson. Beyond his nuclear and church families, John had a variety of interests and pursuits – Science teacher at Brock High, Cannington and Guidance Counsellor at I.E. Weldon, Lindsay, trustee for the Durham School Board, farming, gardening, member of the Manilla Fiddlers and Speiran singers, curling, and maintaining lifelong friendships with his buddies from ’64 OAC. A memorial service will be held at Trinity United Church, Laidlaw St. North Cannington on Sunday, August 7th at 2:30 P.M. following visitation starting at 12:30. A reception will follow the service. A service to celebrate the life of Marion Miller will be held at the THORNE FUNERAL HOME, "Sunderland Chapel", 98 River Street in Sunderland (705-432-2672) at a later date. Interment Sunderland Cemetery.
