| Death* | He died on 16 July 1885 in San Francisco, San Francisco County, California, United States, at age 44; President of the Sierra Nevada Company and one of the former owners of the Comstock Mine
From the Democrat & Chronicle April 23 1882 Rochester NY
John SKAE, or "Johnny," as he used to be called at champagne suppers, manipulated Sierra Nevada stocks so successfully six years ago that he became a millionaire to whom San Francisco paid obeisance. Then he slipped, lost every dollar, became a vagabond and last year was committed to prison for drunkeness. Now he is out again in broadcloth and beaver, and persons say that he recently cleared $250,000 in mining speculations.
--------- John Skae was very enamored with Alice Warren, but her father would have none of it due to John's social status. John Skae promptly left in search of his fortune; he found it in Nevada becoming part owner of the Comstock Mine. Having millions in the bank John Skae returned to Oshawa for a whirlwind courtship of Miss Alice Warren, who's father had fallen on hard times with the plunge of wheat prices after the Civil War, they were married within months and returned to San Francisco.
