She courageously underwent surgery for a brain tumour earlier this month and sadly, suffered complications from which she did not recover. Fay was a longtime employee and manager at Bell Canada and later CGI. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Tony Valente and is survived by her brother John (Kimberley); niece Tina; nephew Mike; sister Beatrice Channon; and nephew Jesse (Zuzana). Left with memories are her extended Ransom and Valente families. "Nana Fay" will be sadly missed by her step-children and step- grandchildren. Fay collected many close friends throughout her life and always enjoyed her excursions with them. She enjoyed volunteering and was an avid reader. For a number of years Fay was an active member of the Westminster United Church in Whitby. Special thanks are extended to the nursing staff at St. Mike's Trauma ICU department for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or the charity of your choice. Visitation at Barnes Memorial Funeral Home, 5295 Thickson Rd. She had been in poor health for a couple of years and for a month or two her condition had been so bad that her recovery was considered very doubtful, She had just passed her 68th birthday.
The Shire family came to Petosky in 1875, and they soon became one of the best known families here for their kindness of heart and readiness to help the early settlers, many of whom were very poor. Mrs. Shire was especiallly liked and respected and her generous disposition never allowed anyone who came to her for help to go away empty handed. The name of John Shire headed the first subscription list for the Bay View with a very liberal amount for the people here in those days.
She is survived by six children, four daughters, Mrs. George Craw, Petoskey; Mrs Fred Lovell, Pellston; Mrs. E. R. Payton and Mrs. Wm. L. Fevor, Chicago; and 3 sons, John and Will Shire, Detroit and George of this city.
The funeral was held this afternoon at 2 o'clock, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Craw, on Woodland avenue, Rev. Bedford-Jones officiating. The interment was in beautiful Greenwood, beside the husband who preceded her to the other side five years ago. |

He operated a clothing store on Portage street and was owner of the St. George Funeral Services. Mr. Rubin was active in civic affairs having served as mayor of the town for three terms. He was a councillor at the time of his death and had served as concillor for several terms prior to the present one. A past master of the St. George lodge no. 12. F and AM, he was a member of the Independant Order of Foresters. He is survived by his wife, the former Elizabeth Ann Sudsbear, Saint John; two sons, Maurice A. Rubin and Nathan J.
