Death*Brent Rynard died on 14 October 2022 in Ontario, Canada, at age 71; It is with deep sorrow that the family of M. Brent Rynard announce that he has joined his Lord and Saviour. Brent passed away on Friday, October 14, 2022 after a courageous battle with an autoimmune disease in his 72nd year.  
Brent was born on June 29, 1951 at Toronto General Hospital, the son of Mervin and Elva Rynard. Brent loved growing up on the family farm located along the Zephyr Road. He learned at a young age to run the farm alongside his father and brother Wayne. Cherished by his wife Cathy.  Loving father of Bill (Caitlin) of Sandford and Jennifer (Sean) of Leaskdale. Beloved Papa to Cole, Alanna, Catherine and Daniel. Dear brother to Wayne (Karen) and nieces Carol (Tim), Wendy (Alan) and Laura (David). Dear brother-in-law to Peggy (the late Bill), nephew the late Jeff (Patti) and niece Michelle. He will be greatly missed by many family, friends and the farming community.
The heart of his family, Brent was a kind-hearted, humble and hardworking man. He loved farming, restoring classic cars and tractors, making maple syrup, curling and spending time with family. While farming part-time, Brent also founded Trillium Measurement and Control, a small business that served the needs of the process control and flow measurement industry throughout Canada. Brent showed such a strong sense of character in his work ethic, determination and drive. He was full of humour and wit and always had a smile for everyone.
Many thanks to the staff and nurses at Toronto General Hospital for their tender care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made towards kidney transplant and research through the University Health Network Foundation. Brent received a kidney transplant in 2014 (donated by daughter-in-law Caitlin) that helped him to embrace life to its fullest. Please consider registering to give the gift of life.
A funeral service will be held at St. Andrew’s-Chalmers Presbyterian Church, 40 Toronto Street South, Uxbridge on Saturday, October 22,2022 at 11a.m. with visitation starting at 10a.m. Immediately following the service a reception will be held. Brent will be laid to rest at the Foster Memorial Cemetery.

(Witness) Fact 1She witnessed the Fact 1 of Morley Roy Shier; On October 3, 1911, Montgomery as Mrs. Ewan MacDonald was introduced as the minister’s new wife and honoured with a reception dinner at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church. Three of the families she met that evening – The Shiers, the Brookses and the Lapps – would never have expected to be mentioned in her books. Catherine* and James Shier’s farm was located a few acres away from the Leaskdale Church. They had three children in 1911: Mabel was nineteen; Morley, sixteen, was a student at Uxbridge High School; and Harvey was nine.

The sons [of the three families] would have known the MacDonald’s for only a few years, but their families and relations became friends especially the younger siblings because they grew up during the fourteen years that Montgomery created and directed the Young People’s Association.

Morley Roy Shier knew “Mrs. Mac” for about two years before he left to attend the University of Toronto’s teacher-preparation program. Bob Brooks was in Ewan’s congregation for about 6 years before he enlisted. Gordie Lapp was at home foe only a year before leaving to work and study pharmacy. They joined three different military units at different times between 1915 and 1917. These three young men represent the sacrifices that small communities all over Canada invested in the world conflict. Montgomery planned, wrote and revised Rainbow Valley during the final years of the war, from 1917 to 1918. Montgomery penned the dedication to the pilot Morley Shier and the two soldiers Bob Brookes and Gordie Lapp, when she finished the Rainbow Valley manuscript in late December 1918, three months after the death of the last casualty, Flight Lieutenant Shier.

Several Shier family members were Montgomery’s friends, including Morley’s cousin, Mary Shier McLeod. Readers of Montgomery’s journals will recall Morley’s uncle, Dr. Walter Columbus Shier, who was a physician in Leaskdale and Uxbridge. Dr. Shier attended the MacDonald family and was the first doctor to treat Ewan’s depression. Another uncle was Rob Shier** who lived in Zephyr; his third wife was Lillis Harrison (Lily Reid), Montgomery’s household helper from 1912 to 1915 and a trusted friend throughout Montgomery’s life.

Morley was a teacher first at Corson’s Siding, northeast of Leaskdale and then at Earl Grey School in Toronto. Shortly after Montgomery began work on Rainbow Valley, Morley stared pilot training. He went to England in May 1918, after basic flight training, to learn combat and reconnaissance skills at the British advanced flying schools. He was assigned to the 256th Royal Air force Squadron formed in June 1918 at Seahouses, Northumberland. The squadron did coastal surveillance for German submarines and flew two-seater Canadian built de Havilland DH-6 planes, with a range of about four hours of flight. One of the many nicknames for the DH-6 was “the Flying Coffin”.

Shier became an active RFC pilot in June 1918 at the age of twenty-three. About one-quarter of the RFC squadron crews were Canadian. Most RFC combat pilots survived an average of about three weeks once they began their combat flights. Although reconnaissance pilots were not exposed to enemy fire as often as combat pilots, the risk to them was still significant; they were not armed but could carry bombs, and parachutes were not allowed because they were too heavy.

After two months of flying, Flight Lieutenant Shier and his plane went down in the fog in the North Sea on Sept 6, 1918 about twenty miles from shore. Montgomery did not hear of Morley’s death until a month later, three days before Germany and Austria agreed to peace in October 1918.Shier’s name is on the Hollybrook Memorial in Southampton, England, erected by the Imperial Ware Graves Commission with the names of those lost at sea. Members of the Shier family placed a marker in the cemetery at Leaskdale and a plaque in the church to honour him at home.

Death*He died on 4 June 2012 at age 88; Hugh Cameron Rynard, B.A.Sc., P.Eng died on Monday, June 4, 2012 at the age of 88, after a slow decline due to Alzheimer’s disease. He was one of three sons born to William and Sadie (Isabel McClellan), who raised the family on a farm in Zephyr, Ontario. Hugh is survived by his loving wife, June, his children Karen (Wayne), Mary and John (Maureen), his grandchildren Sarah, Lindsay, Rachelle, Jeff and Jamie, his step-daughter Penny (Eric Mathers) parents of Colin and Pamela and his brother Mervin. He was predeceased by his brother “Mac.” Hugh served three years in the Canadian Army and after graduation from the University of Toronto, he joined H.G. Acres & Co., a Niagara Falls-based consulting engineering firm. He spent the next 40 years with Acres working on large hydro-electric projects in many places, including Quebec, Pakistan and Bangladesh as well as the Churchill Falls hydro-electric power development in Labrador. In 1969 Hugh became President of H.G. Acres and in 1971 President of Acres International Ltd. He also became Chairman of the company in 1987. Hugh was awarded the Julian C. Smith medal for “Achievement in the Development of Canada,” and inducted as a Fellow of the Academy of Engineering in recognition of his outstanding achievement in promoting engineering excellence and innovation. After retirement from Acres, Hugh continued to work as a Consultant, an Arbitrator and Mediator. He continued to travel with June to many parts of the world until his health deteriorated. The family wishes to thank the staff of L-Wing, Sunnybrook Veterans’ facility for their dedication and compassion. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES CHAPEL LIMITED, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 12 noon until the time of service in the chapel at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 7, followed by a reception at the Granite Club, 2350 Bayview Avenue. If desired, donations made to the Alzheimer Society of Toronto, 20 Eglinton Avenue West, 16th Floor, Toronto M4R 1K8 would be appreciated. Keith Rynard will leave a lasting legacy in Brock Township.longtime politician and volunteer, Mr. Rynard, 87, died last Tuesday (Feb. 12) after suffering what police describe as a "medical episode" while driving in the village.Rynard served as a councillor, deputy reeve and reeve of the former Brock Township from 1969 to 1973. He also served one term as regional councillor and one term as mayor in the amalgamated Brock Township from 1974 to 1978.Rynard was also known for his community involvement, volunteering with a number of organizations including the Lions Club, the Sunderland Agricultural Society and the Sunderland District Historical Society.stature in the community was evident over the weekend, as hundreds turned out to pay respects at his funeral.In her eulogy, Mr. Rynard's daughter, Bonnie Jackson, said that he had three loves in his life -- his family, his farm and Brock Township.
"Dad was born and raised in Brock Township. He married a girl from Brock Township. He raised his family in Brock Township. He lived all his life in Brock Township and he died in Brock Township," she said.
"Dad loved Brock Township – he loved every square mile and thought there was nowhere else on Earth like it.  He visited a lot of other places but he always said it was good to get home."such a strong love, it was only natural for Mr. Rynard to work hard to make it a better place. His legacy will live on -- not only in those who remember him, but also in the community, through his involvement in the construction of the Sunderland Memorial Arena and the Sunderland-Brock Medical Centre and his tireless volunteerism with countless organizations.
"His legacy is right in front of us and will be for years to come," Ms. Jackson said.said her father seemed to live his life by a set of rules and raised his family to live theirs the same way. Build it strong, don't take shortcuts, learn each day, give before you get, don't be afraid to take risks, work hard everyday and, most importantly, play hard.was fiercely proud of his eight grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
"Each of you were the highlights of his life and he looked at you as his accomplishments just the same as his accomplishments in the community," Ms Robertson told the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.an interview Tuesday, Sunderland resident Jay Yerema-Weafer echoed many of those sentiments and spoke about the impact Mr. Rynard had on her life and the lives of others. She called it a "beautiful legacy."
"He was a rare jewel -- one in a million. Once in a lifetime you'll meet someone like him," she said.
"He was a fixture in the community. A real example of what makes Brock Township such a great place."Yerema-Weafer remembered touring the sugar bush at the Rynard farm as a child and the bond that developed when she ran for council in the 2006 municipal election.She described Mr. Rynard as a walking encyclopedia of local history and municipal issues.
"I may not have won the election, but I won the greatest prize of all -- being able to spend so much time with him," she said.
"He was a great mentor and a great friend. His passing has left a huge void in my life. I'm going to miss him terribly. I miss him already."

Marriage*Marion Madeline Rynard married Maurice Abraham Crowder on 2 June 1951. 
Death*Marion Madeline Rynard died on 13 May 2025 at age 92; With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother, and friend Marion Madeline Crowder (Rynard) at the age of 92.

She was the devoted wife of the late Maurice Crowder (May 11, 2017) with whom she shared a beautiful life filled with love, laughter and adventure. Missing her deeply are her children Judith (Ralph Corneil), Joan (Jim Fanning), Brian (Martha), Orville (Gerlinde), Perry (Pauline), Roger (Nancy) and Lyndon (Andrea) each of whom carry forward her spirit, her values, and her boundless love. She was a guiding light in their lives - listener, a supporter, a champion and a nurturer. Her children were her pride and joy, and she never missed the opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments, offer her wisdom, or simply be there with her comforting presence.

Known for her passionate nature and larger-than-life laugh, Marion approached every day with a zest for living. She loved wholeheartedly and gave generously. Whether she was on the golf course, at the bowling alley, or around playing cards, she brought laughter, competitive spirit, and a sense of fun that drew people to her. She lived life on her terms - fearless, full of grace, and a sense of adventure that never faded with age.

She taught us the value of dedication, the importance of kindness, and how to laugh without restraint. Life gets busy, but family came first for Marion, her daily phone calls, her shopping/coffee trips, her visits to and from her Great Great Grandchildren and playing cards with them, were the highlight of her spring. Her legacy lives on in the stories we share, the traditions we carry forward, and the special memories we all share.
